IAYP TREK

IAYP Trek report for the month of July 2018

BRONZE AWARD

Day-1
On  14th July 2018, a group of 25 students accompanied by two teacher escorts left the campus at approximately 7:00 am for the Lake View Adventure camp on Kanakpura road.

We had a lot of fun along the way and after three hours of travel, we finally reached the campsite where we were served refreshments and introduced to our trekking guides.

After a briefing about the trek, we started at 10:30 am. We had to climb steep rock faces and pass through forestland, where we experienced the beauty of the varied flora and fauna. Two hours of intensive trekking took us to the top of the steep hill. The sight from the top was quite spectacular! It started raining suddenly which necessitated a change in the return route as the original one would have become quite slippery. We had lunch at 2:30 pm at our camp.

Post lunch, there was the zip-lining activity across the lake. It was an enjoyable experience for all of us. We were back in time for a refreshment break.

Day-2
We woke up ready for the mud pool experience which started after breakfast was served at 8 am. We received the opportunity to use a few of the military equipments that were shown to us.

Later that day, we played a volleyball match which everyone enjoyed thoroughly. We headed back to our school with new experiences and lasting memories.

IAYP SILVER AWARD

Day-1
The day started off well for all the students selected for the Silver award experience. We boarded the bus and left for Madikere. After a long journey of seven hours, we reached our destination, just in time for lunch. We rested for the day as we were very tired after the long journey.

Day -2
The day began with heavy rainfall. Despite the inclement weather, we decided to stick to our trekking schedule. Luck was on our side as the rain slowly lessened to a drizzle which made our trek more challenging and memorable. It was an eight km trek up to the summit of a hill. As expected, the beautiful view from the top was worth the difficult climb. The downhill trek seemed an easier one and we were in time for a good lunch; to satiate our appetite.

We all participated in team-building activities after which we went to a government school to distribute clothes among the students. After interactions with the students, we returned to our campsite for dinner. The day was fruitfully spent and we felt satisfied at having spent quality time with the school children.

Day -3
This was the last day for the silver awardees. After having breakfast at around 9:30 am, we boarded the bus for our return trip to SBA. On the way back, we stopped at a food outlet for lunch. We reached school at around 8.30 pm carrying with us many memories and valuable experiences.

IAYP GOLD AWARD

Day-1
19 of the Gold awardees made their way from Sarala Birla Academy early in the morning for their Gold award trek. We all carried packed breakfast and left for Madikere (Coorg). Although it was a long journey, we loved it for the scenic beauty of the countryside. The lush green beauty all around kept us refreshed throughout the duration of the trip. We finally reached our destination after eight long hours, just in time for lunch. We were briefed about the next day’s trek and activities.

Day-2
After breakfast, our trek in-charge briefed us about the safety rules to follow during the trek and about the destination. Just as we were about to start, there was a heavy downpour. The rains couldn’t dampen our spirits and we went ahead with our trekking schedule in full rain gear. We carried on our adventure trek through woodland, across mounds, and along muddy roads. We eventually reached the top of the steep hill. The view from the top was spectacular and the cool, fresh air lifted our spirits. We undertook another trek for a distance of around 15 km. It was an out-of-the-world experience!

Thereafter, we returned to the campsite. After snacks, we had adventure activities like zip lining, rope balancing, rappelling and team-building activities.  We all enjoyed the evening with a bonfire and various games that were followed by a delicious dinner.

Day-3
The day started with a lot of enthusiasm as we all had to trek for another eight km to visit a government school. There we interacted with the students and played with them which made us feel very happy and satisfied. Then, we left for Harangi Dam where we enjoyed the beauty of the place and soaked up the cool, refreshing breeze. We retired for the day after dinner.

Day-4
This was the final day on which we had to leave this beautiful place. After breakfast, we began our long journey back to school. We had lunch on the way and finally reached SBA late in the evening. We brought back many happy memories and valuable experiences.

At the end, we would like to express our gratitude to our Principal, Mr. Santanu Das, and our CFO, Mrs. Vani Pratap for giving us an opportunity to experience this trek. I would like to thank Mr. K.S Biradar, the Regional Head of IAYP, for arranging such a wonderful trek for us. He has been a great inspiration to all of us as he constantly encourages us to take up IAYP activities.
